Hoons' cars are spending less time on the back of tow trucks across the state, with data showing a significant decrease in police sending vehicles involved in illegal activity to impound yards during the first half of the year.
The numbers show that Queensland police impound yards have seen more than a 25 per cent drop in business during the first half of 2017, compared with the same period last year.
When comparing the monthly average for 2016 and the first six months of 2017, there has also been a drop of more than a quarter this year.
The month of June saw an even steeper decline, with 351 vehicles impounded during the month last year, compared with 185 during the same period this year.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the changes in impound numbers depended "on a number of factors".
He denied impound yards were at capacity or that the significant decrease was related to a reported legal dispute with tow.com.au, the company the QPS exclusively used to dispatch tow trucks to clear seized vehicles.
Instead, the spokesman pointed to officers using "a full range of options" to deal with vehicles involved in illegal activity, other than sending the cars to holding yards.
"Impoundment is defined to include a number of options, beyond the physical taking of a motor vehicle by an officer at the side of the road," he said.
"Legislation only provides for impoundment (including towing) or immobilisation which includes numberplate confiscation and wheel clamping.
"The figures provided refer to vehicles impounded into holding yards.
"With a greater utilisation of other options of impoundment, it is likely that impounded motor vehicles stored in holding yards will decrease in number.
"Drive in a manner that enlivens the laws on impoundment and you can expect police to take enforcement action against you, including enforcement of motor vehicle impoundment provisions."
