NATIONAL Science Week was celebrated at Canterbury College at a science open afternoon on August 16, and experimentation was the order of the day within the college’s senior science laboratories.
According to the school, the event featured plenty of exciting hands-on science demonstrations, experiments and displays in chemistry, physics, biology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
According to Reina Mesina, STEM coordinator Years 7-12, the afternoon was a chance for the wider school community to connect over science.
“Today’s event is a chance for our families and our community to explore all of the amazing learning opportunities that we have in our middle and senior school science classes,” she said.
“We are also featuring a STEM showcase, giving just a sample of the STEM extracurricular activities that we have on offer here at Canterbury College.”
Mr Laurie Maetum, curriculum coordinator science years 10-12 said it was great to see many parents and students taking part, particularly during Science Week.
“The success of today’s event is such a good advertisement for the amount of interest people have into the world of science.”
