CHILDREN ran excitedly at Veresdale Scrub State School as colour bombs were thrown in the name of fun and exercise.
Coinciding with the school’s Fun Day, the Parents and Citizens Association held a fun run on Monday, August 14.
The Veresdale Scrub State School community took part in a CUA School Fun Run to raise money for their school with exercise instead of selling unhealthy sweets.
The Fun Day and Fun Run drew in a crowd of more than 500 people to the school grounds, including children who made the most of the rides.
There were several stalls selling plants, baked goods and clothing while others offered face painting and arts and crafts activities.
Entertainment such as Beaudesert High School band The Stoned Wings, singer Dave Bartholomeauz, children performing cheerleading routines and a live blacksmithing demonstration were popular.
Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen was invited to judge Lego creations and drawings the school students designed for the competitions.
P&C president Emma Bridge said she was pleasantly surprised at the size of the crowd.
“We have had an amazing response from the community, with great sponsors who came today,” she said.
“We had a break for three years while the hall had some work done to it, so we’re back up and running.”
Ms Bridge said after three years, the Fun Day returned after the work on the school hall was complete.
She said the P&C made the decision to introduce new attractions to turn the event into a mini Ekka.
“It’s the first year we have had the big obstacle and rides for children, which have been really popular,” Ms Bridge said.
“We also have a list of children who are keen to be a part of the fun run, which is great.
“It’s nice to see the stalls are busy and people are enjoying the entertainment on offer.”
