The awards recognise the valuable contributions of Queenslanders who support and promote a united, harmonious and inclusive state community, celebrated during Queensland Multicultural Month which runs throughout August.
According to its website, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community promotes cultural diversity by hosting and attending various cultural and ceremonial celebrations, promoting mutual respect, inclusiveness, cross-cultural engagement and interfaith harmony among communities.
“A united community is a progressive and successful community,” Syed Mubarak of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said.
According to Zain Baig, press and media coordinator for the community, their key faith tenet is loyalty to one’s country of residence.
In addition to regular open days, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has an open-door policy at the Bait-Ul-Masroor Mosque on Neville Road, Stockleigh, especially during times of need.
Community helpers
In the wake of the flooding that inundated parts of the southern Logan community after ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March, 2017, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community rallied to help residents clean up homes and public places.
Recovery efforts were assisted at Jimboomba, North and South Maclean, Beenleigh, Logan Reserve and other Logan suburbs.
The group also participates in memorial events such as Anzac Day and national celebrations, including Australia Day.
The 2017 Queensland Multicultural Awards acknowledge an overarching theme: creating welcome, building opportunity, and celebrating diversity.
Finalists will be honoured at a ceremony on Sunday, August 6, at Logan Entertainment Centre.
