RESIDENTS have just a few days left to comment on a development application for a site near Greenbank’s Pub Lane earmarked for an additional 500 homes on top of the 1000 properties already approved by Economic Development Queensland.

Developed jointly by Villa World and Greenfields, the 153-hectare site sits within the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area and was formerly known as Teviot Downs Estate.
Greenbank resident Shane Thomsen contacted the Times this week, hoping to inspire concerned locals to have their say about the plan to increase the number of properties to be built.
Mr Thomsen has posted an e-petition with the state government calling for a refusal of the increase in homes on population grounds.

“The total population growth will more than double the current population of Greenbank,” Mr Thomsen said in his petition statement.
“The road infrastructure is not capable of handling the traffic congestion that will arise from this population growth. Traffic congestion already exists at peak times with stress on road networks.
“There is no public transport in the area to assist the traffic congestion. There are minimal to no employment opportunities in the local area, the local primary school has high numbers of children, there is no high school, and support services for community are lacking.
“The rail line passing through Greenbank does not have a plan for a passenger rail service,” he said.
Rural concerns
The news comes just four months since a group of concerned Greenbank residents approach Logan City Council Division 11 councillor Trevina Schwarz about the planned expansion of the site.
Resident Chris Griffiths, who will share a boundary with the development, told the Times at the time that there were serious concerns about the lack of infrastructure, including roads, schools, emergency services and public transport.
“We are not against development but this many lots will destroy the fabric of our area,” he said.
“It’s going to create mostly rental properties, which will mean a transient population, not a rural community.”
Residents concerned about the expansion can write to the Economic Development Queensland development manager about PDA at lot 9968 Pub Lane, Greenbank (DEV2017/831), by sending an email before August 4, 2017, to pdadevelopmentassessment@dilgp.qld.gov.au.
