WRIGHT MP Scott Buchholz visited more than 30,000 troops from Australia and the United States near Rockhampton to watch war games between the two countries.
A spokesperson for Mr Buchholz said the military practice was all part of Operation Talisman Sabre, which was the biggest joint exercise between the two countries.
Mr Buchholz, who visited as a parliamentary observer, donned army fatigues for the experience.
“We have an active Defence community in our electorate with the Amberley Airforce base close by and the Landwarfare Centre in the heart of my electorate at Canungra,” Mr Buchholz said.
“This opportunity has given me a greater appreciation of the service and sacrifice of the many defence families and veterans in the local area.”
Amphibious landings, parachuting, land force manoeuvres and the coordinated firing of live ammunition were all practiced throughout the operation by troops, with participants from New Zealand, Japan and Canada also included in the exercise.
