Jimboomba’s Camryn Newton-Smith has returned from the Oceania Area Championships in Suva, Fiji, with two gold medals and six Oceania Championship records.
The 17 year Jimboomba Athletics Club member won the under 18 women’s hurdles in a record time of 13.91 seconds and also won the under 18 women’s heptathlon with a record score of 5,398.
Camryn also broke four records for individual events within the seven event heptathlon including high jump with a clearance of 1.71m, javelin with a throw of 43.09m, 200m with a run of 25.80 and shot put.
This finalises a great season for Camryn who won the state and national age group titles for heptathlon earlier in the year as well as five Queensland championship medals and a spot in the Athletics Australia under 19 Talent Squad.
As a member of Jimboomba Little Athletics, Camryn also won four state Little Athletics gold medals in March this year for hurdles, high jump, long jump and pentathlon.
