The Beaudesert Warriors were well represented at the recent Queensland Rugby Junior State Championships held at the Albany Creek GPS Junior Rugby Club held over three days on June 30 – July 2.
Congratulations to Reagan Callaghan and Jacob Reid from the under 13s who were selected to play for the Gold Coast Regional Team (Gold Coast Cyclones under 13s) competing against teams from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Central and Far North Queensland as well as Townsville.
The team competed extremely well and went through the competition undefeated.
They were unlucky not to take out the under 13s top position after missing out on for and against points.
Both players thoroughly enjoyed themselves with Reagan being selected at halfback and Jacob on the wing.
Jacob scored a fine long range try as well as kicking a few conversions to help the team record a large 72-7 win over Brisbane Yellow in the second game of the tournament. Reagan impressed with his experience and pace in the halfback position.
In the under 16s, Beaudesert had three players selected, Alex Gilliland, Jeremy Smith and Kyle Rimmer.
The Gold Coast Cyclones under 16s also went through the weekend undefeated finishing on top of the standings after downing the Sunshine Coast in the final 29-5.
Coming from a small region and competing against the larger rugby strongholds of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the players have all done themselves and the local club proud and have a bright playing future ahead of them.
It is amazing the amount of playing talent that is produced by the Beaudesert Warriors Rugby Union Club considering the numbers that other clubs have on their records.
Congratulations must go to Reagan Callaghan and Kylie Rimmer who were subsequently selected to represent Queensland Country to play against Brisbane City for the State Championships on Friday July 7 at Ballymore Stadium.
Reagan’s under 13s narrowly went down 22-15 in a hard-fought game that was very impressive to watch whilst Kyle’s U16’s ran out winners 13-3.
From here it is back to representing their club for the second half of the season starting next weekend.
