One Nation candidate for Logan Scott Bannan believes whoever wins the next state election, fixing the Mount Lindesay Highway must be their first priority.
Bannan said the first step to fixing the highway is getting the entire stretch of road from Park Ridge to Beaudesert fully costed for multiple lanes.
“Someone needs to take leadership of it for starters. It’s just like a normal job, you don’t go a build a house not knowing how much it’s going to cost to do it; we need to know how much its going to cost from Park Ridge to Beaudesert with overpasses not traffic lights, done properly, and no school zones in it,” he said.
“I just want to see it fixed, enough is enough, it’s getting beyond a joke, there is no need for another survey, no need for a petition, no need for a camera to count cars, it has to be done.
“At the moment it just feels like the money gets spent wherever the government spends it and we get whatever is left. We don’t want the leftovers anymore, we want it fixed, its has got to be done.”
Bannan said he would like to see upgrades completed before any future housing developments turn their first sod.
“These estates are giving the government money, Lendlease gave almost 40 million dollars to the state government for Waterford-Tamborine road; that’s all good and well getting it after two or three thousand houses have gone in,” he said.
“Before these estates get their first house in them, do the roads first. The whole government system for roads is back to front; if we don’t fix it now in five years time we’ve got no hope.”
The Jimboomba local said if elected, the highway would be his primary concern.
“How I’ll fix it is, I’ll get that price, I’ll take leadership of it, and I won’t stop; they’ve never dealt with a bloke like me.
“I’ll push that hard and I won’t give up until they give me the money for it; it has got to be a number one priority. Everyone is sick of talking about it,” he said.
