Tamborine rider cleans up at Interschool state championships

The Kooralbyn International School year 8 student headed to Toowoomba for the Interschool Queensland State Championships at the end of June.

Despite competing under the same school banner, each team rider carries an individual score.

Felicity placed first in the Federation Equestrian International Prix St George, FEI Intermediate 1, Intermediate 1 Freestyle.

She also was awarded FEI Prix St George Champion and FEI Intermediate 1 Champion.

All of her results in these levels gave her the FEI Small Tour Champion title with horse Blanco Park Wildcard.

She also was awarded the Medium Reserve Champion after placing first in the Medium 4.3 and Medium 4.2 on horse Leadburn Don Amour.

Felicity said she was offered a place with both horses in the Queensland team but has chosen to ride in the FEI Prix St George and FEI Intermediate 1 on Blanco Park Wildcard.

“It means I am the youngest rider competing in the hardest dressage division,” she said.

“I’m pretty grateful to be chosen to go into the national rounds.

“The nationals are a bigger show and have more experienced people, but I’m not nervous.”

Felicity said she has a lot of competition experience under her belt and wasn’t intimidated by the fact most riders would be older than her.

“I’m just going to keep practicing everyday,” she said.

“There were a few tough competitors at state level so we will see what it is like at the nationals.

“I always just try and calm myself and my horse down before we head out.”

Felicity said she was looking forward to meeting new competitors and her Queensland team mates.

“I do want to win,” she said.

“But really if I get more personal best scores that would be great too.”

Felicity currently sits between a 63 to 66 per cent in her dressage divisions.

The 13-year-old will compete in the Australian Youth Nationals at Caboolture this week and then will travel back to Caboolture later in the month to take part in the Brisbane CDI in the SCI-J division.
