PLANS to develop a $20 million state-of-the-art residential aged care facility at Jimboomba were recently announced by Salvation Army Aged Care Plus, a division of The Salvation Army Eastern Territory.
According to a statement from the company, the proposed 80-bed centre will open its doors in 2020, providing the full spectrum of aged care services, including specialist dementia, mental health, spiritual, respite and palliative care.
Aged Care Plus is currently searching for a suitable block of land to build the centre on.
CEO Sharon Callister said the organisation is excited to provide industry-leading aged care services at Jimboomba.
“Aged Care Plus is committed to caring for older Australians, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our loving care to those living in regional Queensland.
“As the ageing population continues to grow, it is now more important than ever we expand our services to meet the needs of regional communities.”
Federal funding
The announcement comes after the successful application for 80 licences in the Jimboomba region through the Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR), a federal aged care sector investment round.
The government is providing an additional $649m annually to create 9911 new residential aged care places in the 2016-17 ACAR.
Aged Care Plus were granted 240 licenses in total, including licenses in Ipswich and Hills District and Taree in New South Wales.
According to federal minister for aged care Ken Wyatt, this investment provides greater choice for older Australians.
“Australians want greater choice and control over their care and this investment does exactly that. With our rapidly ageing population, the Australian government is committed to providing a sustainable aged care system that meets the needs of our older Australians,” he said.
