The Jimboomba Thunder Open Women’s side took on Flagstone Phoenix at the Thunderdome winning 28-16 on the weekend.
Strong leadership from Mel Smith and Emmalyn Donnelly was a key in the lead up to the match. The game started with a few dropped balls but the team quickly gained the upper hand via strong performances from Kylie Lewis, Nikki Dempsey and Kath Whitehead who made huge metres up the middle and put in massive efforts in defence. Their efforts allowed thunder Thunder’s pace attack spearheaded by Zoey Holland to slice through the Phoenix back line.
Again Desree Fogarty and Shania Paulson proved difficult for the opposition to manage. Rhyanen Patterson brought some go forward to the back line and cemented her position as an impact player out wide. Coaches Greg Carson and Rob Smith were proud of how every player displayed courage and determination. The player of the match was Janet Mitchell for her efforts directing play and her strong work load.
