The family of a toddler who died in Brisbane overnight were known to Child Safety but were not being investigated at the time of the incident, according to the department.
Paramedics were called to a Northgate property about 3.30pm Thursday after a two-year-old girl had gone into cardiac arrest.
Paramedics attempted to revive the unconscious girl for half an hour before she was rushed to Lady Cilento Hospital, according to Nine News.
The young girl died in hospital overnight.
Police were called to the home on Thursday afternoon and were advised the girl was found unconscious in the home and had serious injuries, including significant burns.
A man and woman were assisting police.
Minister for Child Safety Shannon Fentiman said police were working with the child's family, who were "fully cooperating" with the investigation.
"I can confirm that the Department of Child Safety was not currently investigating or involved with this family at the time of this tragic incident," she said.
"My heart breaks for the family and friends of this little girl. There are many people grieving today.
"We all need to be respectful of the police investigation underway."
It is understood the family had been working with Child Safety up until 12 months ago.
A neighbour told Nine News she had no idea something was wrong until she saw the ambulance and police cars.
"There is never any sound comes from there, no indication that there was something wrong," she said.
Police have established an investigation centre at Boondall Police Station and launched Operation Papa Belveder to establish the circumstances around her death and the injuries she sustained.
