Forget about Dustin Martin, Nat Fyfe and Josh Kelly because Essendon forward Joe Daniher is the hottest out-of-contract property in the AFL at the moment, according to former Melbourne champion Garry Lyon.
The emerging superstar has given the footy world an exciting glimpse of what's to come in the last five rounds with three best-on-ground performances.
Unsurprisingly, those three performances inspired the Bombers to victories against Collingwood, Geelong and West Coast. He scored back-to-back bags of five goals against the Cats and Eagles, something he had not previously achieved in his 79-game career.
The 23-year-old's freakish ability and unique skill set for a 200cm tall player have left onlookers amazed recently, and even drawn comparisons to Sydney champion Lance Franklin.
However, Daniher is yet to re-sign with the Bombers beyond this season and Lyon, a champion forward in his own right in his playing days, believes the father-son pick could command $1 million a season.
"He'd be the hottest prospect in footy," Lyon told SEN. "Hotter than Dustin Martin and Nat Fyfe."
Daniher isn't expected to leave Essendon and the club's CEO Xavier Campbell was confident a deal would be agreed to soon.
"Adrian Dodoro is our list manager and he's had good dialogue with Joe's management," Campbell told SEN.
"I feel like we are in good position. The last update I got was that things were moving well and they were in line with our expectations.
"I know a lot of our fans are keen to see him put pen to paper."
Incidentally, on Thursday Campbell also confirmed his club's interest in recruiting Martin who has the option of leaving Richmond later this year as a free agent.
"Dustin is a super talent. He's a genuine match-winner and we'll see what happens," Campbell said.
