Why do spiders evoke such irrational fear in humans?
Sure they are fascinating on any level but if you asked, most people would say, “Spiders are creepy, crawly and dangerous”.
Research shows that spider silk incredibly, is stronger and tougher by weight than steel. Hate them or love them spiders are quite beneficial.
They eat pesky mosquitoes and bugs but yet they are still regarded as creepy.
They spin beautifully intricate and impressive webs.
They are recorded in ancient mythology, urban legends and newspapers around the world.
It’s when they wander a little too close for comfort that I lose my composure.
Not that I’m an arachnophobia by any measure but put one on my pillow unexpectedly and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a meltdown.
A huntsman by name, harmless I’m told but with an impressive leg span which classified this spider as large.
There he was with his rear end protruding onto my pillow.
I could hardly believe my eyes but I cannot forget his rich, brown color and gangly textured legs.
Thinking about how long he had been there gave me a shudder down my spine.
With my heart pounding I pull the sheet down and he disappeared down the back of the bed.
I suspect he was as scared of me as I was of him.
What followed was a quest to relocate this magnificent yet scary creature back outside into his habitat, a far better place to live than my pillow.
