ACT Brumbies scrumhalf Tomas Cubelli played tour guide in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, inviting his Super Rugby teammates to his former club to start plotting an Argentina ambush.
The injured international joined the Brumbies in his home town to continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to breakdown the language barrier on the club's first trip to South America.
The Brumbies will play the Argentina Jaguares for the first time on Sunday morning Australian time as they look to cement their place at the top of the conference ladder.
It's a match Cubelli would have loved to have been a part of, but a pre-season disaster almost ruined his Super Rugby season.
Cubelli damaged his patellar tendon in a trial match, but it is hoped he will be fit to join the Brumbies' charge to the finals after the mid-year break for international rugby.
But in the meantime he's offering inside tips at the Belgrano Athletic Club about his his homeland and the little-known Jaguares roster for what looms as a crucial clash for the Brumbies' finals hopes.
The Brumbies beat their first overseas opponent of the season last week, toppling the Southern Kings in South Africa on the first leg of their around-the-world trip.
The tight win was as timely boost for the Brumbies' confidence after losing four games in a row, which left their season dangling by a thread.
Flanker Jarrad Butler said beating the Kings was a perfect injection of energy for the draining trip to Buenos Aires and urged the Brumbies to ensure they don't fall back into bad habits this weekend.
"When you're losing by really small margins all the time, that does get frustrating," Butler said.
"To be able to finish off the game against the Kings and grind our way to a win, that's exciting and hopefully we can start to build a bit of momentum coming into the back end of the season.
"This is my first time anywhere in South America so this is pretty exciting and a great place for us to take the next step in our season.
"I think it's a new experience for most of hte guys, there are only a few guys who have played over here before.
"We know they're going to be a super physical team and the home crowd will get right behind that. But we're ready for that sort of game."
Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham will name his team on Friday as he weighs up keeping combinations or rotating players for fresh blood against the Jaguares.
The Brumbies have just four games left in the regular season and will be on weary legs after completing a 34,000 kilometre journey to Port Elizabeth, Buenos Aires and back to Canberra.
Butler backed the rotation system Larkham has used this year, insisting he was keeping all players on edge and stoking competition within the squad.
Butler was expected to fill the hole left by superstar No. 7 David Pocock this season, but injury delayed his start to the season and he has played just six of 11 games.
The 25-year-old has played the six games in a row, alternating between a bench spot, No. 8 and openside flanker.
"The start of the year was pretty tough for me personally, especially because the back row has been playing so well and you're trying to get in there," Butler said.
"But now I feel all right with how it's tracking. I'm just trying to have as much impact as possible wherever I fit into the team, and that's a credit to the guys.
"When you're on the bench, the biggest thing is knowing your role wherever you're going to be so you can be confident and really try to get the boys home."
