The Voice journey has come to an end for our own Emmaus College music star Ruby Jo.
Ruby Jo performed in the knockout rounds against two fellow Team Seal competitors on last night’s episode.
Her and her competitors Sam and Berni were faced with the task of singing Rihanna songs, but only Berni would be chosen into Team Seal.
Ruby Jo was the first performer in her round, where she performed This is we came for.
Speaking to the Times on May 24, Ruby Jo said the song pushed her way out of her comfort zone.
“Rihanna is something I never would have picked for myself,” she said.
“There was pressure there, but I’m happy Seal pushed me and he made me get out of that comfort zone.
“I did that and I’m proud of myself.”
Ruby Jo said she had been a little shocked to be up against Berni and Sam who were both quite a lot older than her, but she had formed strong friendships with them both.
“To us it wasn’t a battle, it was just sharing the same stage and who ever got through got through,” she said.
“They both took me under their wings and Seal was just so nurturing toward me.
“I just learned so much about my voice and who I am as an artist.”
Despite her disappointment in not making it through, Ruby Jo said this had been just a glimpse in to where she hoped to be in the future.
“I think now is just a time to regroup,” she said.
“My passion is still there.”
Ruby Jo said she would seriously consider heading back to The Voice as she had received such positive feedback form her coach Seal and fellow judge Delta Goodrem.
“Next year I am in year 12, so I just need to see where I am at,” she said.
“I’ve learnt so much about myself and I would walk back on to that The Voice stage and be just so much more confident.”
Ruby Jo will be performing locally for the next few months and will next take to the stage at the Flood Aid concert on June 4 in Logan Village.
