COMMUNITIES throughout Australia are hosting concurrent Plebs, Pros and Personalities for Suicide Prevention Australia (PPP4SPA) fundraising events this weekend, including one at Logan.
The first PPP4SPA took place in Sydney in 2013, with over $300,000 raised to date.
“The national rollout has seen events take place in the Gold Coast, Perth, Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney and for the second time running, Logan,” local event organiser Kylie Davies said.
“We had amazing feedback from Ben Higgs, who is the co-founder for this event and an ambassador for SPA.
“There are eight locations this year and we will all go live at the same time. All treadmills will be fired up!” she said.
Kicking off at 6.00pm on Friday May 26, PPP4SPA treadmills will run simultaneously for the 24-hour Treadmill Challenge in the Central Coast of NSW, Sydney’s Northern Beaches and Eastern Suburbs, Grafton and Jindabyne, NSW, Perth, and Logan.
This will be followed on Saturday May 27 by a Family Fun Day at Yarrabilba Parklands.
“We have two of our local MPs Jim Chalmers and Linus Power opening the day at 10am,” Ms Davies said.
“The day will see many community members on our treadmills, a youth treadmill, our kids running the lap dash, special entertainment with our hula-hoop guest Bree, the local fire brigade, fun stalls and of course a sausage sizzle.”
Ms Davies said her vision is to see people from all walks of life banding together to show support for each other, including our youth.
“It takes special people to go out and raise awareness for such a taboo subject,” she said.
“Whilst others find it easier to shy away on the issue, a lot of us are uniting with all of our community members to show everyone going through a tough time that there are indeed many places and people to turn to.”
