A day of celebration is planned for Saturday’s official opening of the $4.5 million upgrade.

The community is invited to tour the new sport and recreation hub and participate in a range of activities.

According to LCC Councillor Trevina Schwarz (Division 11) the new sports park is the result of a funding agreement between Logan City Council and the Queensland government.

“Logan City Council has invested $3 million dollars into this project and I would like to thank the state government for its injection of $1.5 million under its ‘Get Playing Plus’ program,” she said.

“The facilities at this site will not only cater for local residents but will also attract visitors and competitors from across Queensland and internationally.

“The Jimboomba region has a strong sporting heart and I’m proud to be connected with a quality facility for future sports stars to train and play, where the community can come together and support them.”

LCC’s sport and community services chairman Cr Steve Swenson called the park: “An important community asset”.

“It includes a world class equestrian centre, netball, rugby league and touch football facilities,” he said.

“Our focus in creating this development was to construct a top class facility to meet the needs of the fast growing community and I think residents will be impressed with the result.”

Logan City’s first undercover equestrian arena was given a trial run on Saturday May 6 when the Jimboomba Pony Club held its open day at Jimboomba Park.

Riders of all ages on more than 80 horses took part in a T-shirt and hack show.

The local club will be holding a junior gymkhana at this Saturday’s opening event for all riders 16 years and under.

In July last year Logan City mayor Luke Smith was joined by member for Beaudesert Jon Krause, member for Logan Linus Power, and Crs Schwarz and Swenson for an official sod-turning ceremony to kick off the redevelopment.

Mr Power, who represented the state treasurer at the sod-turning, said the Queensland government was pleased to support the redevelopment with $1.5 million.

Activities to mark the opening of the sports park will be held at the site in South Street, Jimboomba this Saturday, May 20 starting at 9.30am.
