The Park Ridge Pirates under 16s took on Mt Gravatt on Mother's Day in the division 2 under 16s match of the round for the second week and it lived up to all expectations.
The midfield battle was intense for the whole game with even clearances.
Standouts at the coalface for the Pirates were Zac Briggs and Riley Greene who took responsibility for their main playmaker and reduced his impact on the game, while getting plenty of touches.
The Pirates back line was solid again lead by Mitch Thompson, Fred Ashdown and late in the game controlled by Nathan Colenso .
The Pirates missed opportunities in front of goal in the last quarter kicking five points from set shots. Eventually the Pirates went down by 14 points
Best players were Riley Greene, Fred Ashdown, Zac Briggs, Mitch Thompson, and Ethan Lennon.
Under 15s girls
The Pirates under 15s girls played a very physically demanding game against Aspley, battling through the match with no interchange.
The team worked hard and tried their hardest all game and it was a credit to their resilience that they did not give up.
Best on ground was Ashleigh Maiuri and Olivia Harmer.
Final score was Park Ridge Pirates 4.2-26 to Aspley 6.6-42.
Under 14s
The Pirates under 14s defeated Narangba Crows on Mother’s Day with the team traveling up the Bruce Highway to play a tall side in Narangba.
During the first quarter the under 14s came out firing, kicking the first four goals and their play was exciting to watch. During the second term it was a lot tighter with either team not giving the opposition an inch, which turned the match into a physical contest.
At half-time the Pirates had a convincing lead thanks to stellar performances by Jacob Flegg, Brayden and Kaleb Nolan.
The second half was just as tight as the second quarter and it was tough to get it in the hands of the Pirate forwards.
Despite the tough, physical contest Park Ridge prevailed giving all the mums and supporters a good win 43 to 26.
Under 12s
The Pirates under 12s travelled away on Mother’s Day to take on the Sherwood Magpies.
Against a well drilled side, the Pirates showed great improvement on last week, playing three and a half quarters of solid football.
With both sides sharing equal shots on goals, inaccurate kicking hurt the Pirates when Sherwood kicked three goals late in the last quarter to take the win 6.2.38 to 2.6.18.
