Giants coach Leon Cameron has warned fiery duo Toby Greene and Heath Shaw to reel in their on-field behaviour.
Both players have been involved in several on-field incidents this season, Shaw most notably in Saturday night's win over the Sydney Swans where he called Tom Papley a 'f---ing retard'. Shaw apologised the following morning, and has not been sanctioned by the league or his club.
Greene, meanwhile, has been reported by the umpires three times this year, most recently against the Swans for a headbutt on Isaac Heeney from which he subsequently escaped punishment.
That followed a $1000 fine for striking Port Adelaide's Dan Houston in round four, and a $1000 fine in preseason for misconduct against North Melbourne's Sam Wright.
"We've had a good chat with Toby over the last couple of weeks," Cameron said.
"He's such a competitor, he's got to make sure that in the moment he's got to be able to control that aggression. We don't want to lose any guys to suspension, let alone the guys of the quality of Toby Greene.
"He knows that, he's got to constantly work on that. The one thing I will say is I love the way he goes about it, he's such a competitor.
"He does know that he's got to make sure that when that tipping point comes, he's just got to be able to take a deep breath and move onto the next contest. We want Toby playing every game and he wants to be playing every game as well."
Greene, who has kicked a Giants-high 17 goals this year, and Shaw will both play in Friday night's blockbuster against the Western Bulldogs in Canberra, but the Giants will be without co-captain Phil Davis who suffered a hamstring twinge at training on Tuesday.
Harrison Himmelberg is in the mix to play his first AFL game of the season, while youngster Tim Taranto is also being strongly considered for selection after being rested next week.
Davis is only expected to miss one game, as the Giants look to build on Saturday's record 42-point win over the Swans.
Shaw's sledge on Papley took the gloss off GWS's fourth-straight win, and Cameron was satisfied the club had sufficiently dealt with the incident.
"Heath's knockabout and he'll joke around about things but he was genuinely remorseful about what happened on Saturday night," Cameron said.
"He's the first to get on the front foot to say he stepped over the line. We were really happy with how he's gone about it and we move on.
"The thing I love about our players is they want to play a competitive brand of footy. When we don't, we get beaten.
"These real good quality sides like the Dogs, the Hawthorns, the Geelongs, Sydney, I could go on and on, they play on edge.
"Also they know the line not to tip over. Sometimes some of our players will tip over that edge at times."
The Bulldogs clash will be the first Friday night game in Giants history, and the first meeting between the sides since last year's pulsating preliminary final.
"We've got to make sure we bring the sort of footy that can match it against them, because I still rate them as the best team along with Adelaide," Cameron said.
"They are a very, very good team, they're four and one for a reason, they've found a way to win even though they've not been playing the best footy possible at this stage.
"We know when the Dogs want to turn it on, they can turn it on. The contested ball and stoppages is probably going to determine the outcome of the game this Friday night.
"[Jason] Johannisen and [Matthew] Boyd and [Bob] Murphy and [Matthew] Suckling, those sort of types can carve you up as good as anyone. They're probably the elite half back flankers in the competition.
"Our halfback flankers in [Zac] Williams and [Nathan] Wilson and Shaw and [Adam] Kennedy have got to be able to do the same thing. They're in pretty good form as well.
"It's a pretty basic game, it'll be contested ball, stoppage, who moves the ball better from the half back line probably wins the game."
