The Jimboomba United Football Club (JUFC) under 13s Division 3 team are back in the winner’s circle after a good win against the Southside Eagles at Bulimba on Saturday.
This team were the under 12s Division 4 grand final winners from last season and after being promoted up a division for that win have only taken three games to have their first win of the season.
The game started off with the Jimboomba team having a gusty wind advantage and squandering many opportunities early, but after 16 minutes they found the net through Jay Moseley.
From that point on until half-time it seemed that the JUFC team were all out attack against a Southside Eagles defence that were struggling match it for pace.
By half-time Moseley had scored another two goals, Caleb Redway, mindful of the strong breeze at his back, hit a long range ball from about 30 metres out to see it just dip under the cross bar and Rhys Comerford unluckily had a goal disallowed due to an offside.
Southside Eagles had their chances during the first half however great goal keeping by Owen Atkinson and strong defence from Brandon Walsh and Will Ridout denied Southside to keep the score at 4-nil at half-time.
The second half was much closer and not long into it Southside were awarded a spot kick after a soft infringement in the penalty box.
The shot beat a diving Atkinson and Southside were on the board.
Ten minutes later Jaxon Schloss sent nice pass forward and strong determination on the ball helped Rhys Smith, a new comer to the team, score his first goal.
Both teams were starting to tire and that led to Southsides second goal.
Jimboomba’s defence had a lapse of concentration near the baseline in goal and allowed Southside to pounce on it for their second goal.
With 10 minutes to go a Jimboomba corner kick beautifully taken by Walsh was headed into the goal by Moseley for a 6-2 lead.
The score stayed like that until the end with both teams still trying hard right up to the final whistle. Everyone on the Jimboomba team had strong games with the 3,2,1 points this week going to Brandon Walsh -3, Owen Atkinson – 2 and Jaxon Schloss – 1.
