The Jimboomba Thunder Under 13s Division 3 team started the season well with a convincing win against Mudgeeraba, 38-4.
Scoring tries were Lane McKenna, Bisbee Gleeson, Sam Lowe, Bradley McKee and Taj Denaro (4). Josh Reynolds, Taj Denaro and Nick Annakin converted tries. Dakota Holland, new to the five-eighth position, distributed the ball well. The whole team worked hard in defence with Mitch Savage putting on some stand out tackles.
Under 13s Division 1
The under 13 Division 1 team hit the ground running with a strong, 40-18 win against Mudgeeraba in the first round of the competition on Saturday.
Try scorers were Timmy Sielaff-Burns (4), Ryleigh Lewis, Max Arnold, Connor Brooks and Lorenzo Wall. Sielaff-Burns converted four of the tries. Kobe Fox and Rihari Bennett had some strong runs in attack while Dylan Bradshaw, Kaizer Langi and Declan Arnold led the defence.
Under 12s
The under 12s side travelled to Beaudesert on Saturday for their round one clash in a local derby against the Kingfishers.
After losing to the same side in a pre-season game just two weeks earlier, the Thunder came out fired up and recorded a 16-14 win.
A big improvement in defence from the Thunder was the key to the win. Matthew Barrow scored the third of his tries with only minutes left in the game to give the Thunder the victory. After coming into the game at half time, Blake Whelen’s impact was impressive and his second half effort earned him the Man of the Match award.
Jimboomba Under 8s Gold
Thunder under 8s Gold came up against an imposing opposition for their first hit out of the season.
Despite a significant size difference the team made their supporters proud with a gutsy never give up performance.
Charli Berghauser and Xavier Miller performed flawlessly in dummy half and first receiver roles.
Endless effective tackles from Ben Lyon saw him receive the tackle of the day medallion. Tye Johnston communication and passion throughout the match made him an obvious recipient of the positive or it's pointless trophy.
While a two try effort from Joziah Clarke handed him the player of the match honours.
