North Maclean resident Lynda O’Hello has sat in her wheelchair for the past three weeks looking at the devastation caused to her home by the Logan River flood.
The property, where she and husband John have lived since 1990, was completely inundated, and now the 72-year-old must rebuild their life and home.
In their yard sits what is left of their worldly possessions, which are unusable as a result of the floodwater.
Mrs O’Hello said she was frustrated Logan City Council had not yet collected their hard rubbish after SES and local volunteers helped remove it from the home.
“This flood has really tested me, as I’m normally the person who is helping,” she said.
“I just feel like we’ve been overlooked and we have no idea how to move forward from here.
“I’ve been sitting here everyday thinking ‘don’t push, so many people have been affected’ but I think it’s time we asked for something to be done.”
A Logan City Council spokesperson said due to the sheer volume of waste the job had been passed to the Road, Construction and Maintenance branch, which would be better equipped to handle the removal.
“RCM’s capacity has been tested by the large nature of the flood and they are endeavouring to get to every property as soon as they can,” the spokesperson said.
Mrs O’Hello said she and her husband were uninsured and could not re-enter their home until it had been independently assessed for safety.
She said have barely any essentials and were currently staying with family and friends.
“We’ve always owned our home and I’ve always had such a connection to Jimboomba but now I don’t know what we will do,” she said.
The O’Hellos said they would really appreciate a hand from the community to get them back on their feet.
“We don’t have space to put much, but we really need some essentials like shoes or linens and shed things like a lawn mower,” Mrs O’Hello said. “Even if we could have any tradespeople to help look at our home it would help us so much.”
