UPDATE: 9pm Wednesday Logan City Council has called on residents to be flood prepared if they live in a low-lying area.
Sandbags will be available from 8am until 6pm on Thursday, March 29.
Head to the Logan CIty Council – Marsden Depot, 181 Chambers Flat Rd, Marsden, or SES sites, 1464 Waterford-Tamborine Road, Logan Village and 26-36 Winnetts Road, Daisy Hill.
PREVIOUSLY: Ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie is expected to bring falls of up to 250mm across South East Queensland tomorrow and the Bureau of Meteorology are urging residents to be prepared.
There is also the potential for strong wind gusts and Energex has urged residents to check their yards for any loose items which could be carried by strong winds.
Energex’s Executive General Manager Service Delivery Paul Rainbird said forecast winds above 40kph and torrential rain can affect the power network and now is the time to get ready and keep safe.
“Strong winds have the potential to blow tree branches and other loose objects into powerlines,” he said.
“If underground power areas experience flooding, we are asking people not to enter waters that are inundating electrical infrastructure such as green pillar boxes, transformers or similar equipment that is mounted on the ground.
“If your home or business suffers water damage you should always call a licensed electrician to test it is safe before power is restored.”
Mr Rainbird said Energex has extra crews on standby for the expected severe weather and asked the community remain patient if they lose power.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
