St Peters Lutheran College has again confirmed its status as one of the top schools for swimming in Queensland with dominant performances at two recent carnivals.
The swim squad, made up of students from both Springfield and Indooroopilly campuses, won both the Queensland Girls Secondary School Sporting Association (QGSSSA) and Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) Swimming Championships earlier this month.
St Peters girls team won the QGSSSA competition by 68 points and also won the 13 years, 14 years, 15 years and Open age groups.
The boys squad claimed victory at AIC event by 51 points as well as taking out the 14, 16 years and Open age groups.
Year 12 student and swim team member Marcelo Arriagada-Malone said she took great pride in the victories.
“To me, there has been no greater honour than to represent the school in such an outstanding, unified and competitive environment,” she said.
“I look forward to seeing what our school can accomplish at future sporting championships.”
A school spokeswoman said the Springfield students contributed to the outstanding result for both girls and boys.
“A number of students from there placed first in their events which is an outstanding result for a smaller sized school,” she said.
She said the heart of the College’s success is the outstanding work done by the St Peters Western Swim club, where a majority of students train under the guidance of Australian coaches Michael Bohl and Dean Boxall.
“An increasing number of students from St Peters Springfield are also training under Bohl and Boxall, and are seeing the benefits of being part of that program,” she said.
“This is made further possible by the school bus provided by the College that takes our students for training, easing the transportation burden for parents.”
