Students from several Jimboomba and Beaudesert schools have been chosen to represent in the 11-years Pacific Rim Rugby League team.
Jimboomba State School students Jose Itou, Jacob Evile and Aiden Maguire, Flagstone State School students Keegan Redding and Tyrone Trott, Hills International College student Nathan Cross, Beaudesert State School student Beau Frazer and St Mary’s School student Jim McClure will team up with boys from the Beenleigh district to form the 15 man squad.
Coach Sam Harreman said the boys would play in a trial match during week one of term two.
“This is the best of the best and we will select the best possible players for the South Coast team from here,” he said.
“There is just a massive amount of talent in this team, but there is no pecking order with the boys.”
Over the past several weeks the boys have been focusing on the basics of rugby league at their training sessions.
“These skills are what we call the one per centers,” Mr Harreman said.
“It is where we work on our techniques, not over complicating the plays, our defensive lines and running hard.
“All these boys are willing to take direction and they have really taken to the team environment.
“We can see the simple stuff starting to pay off.”
Mr Harreman said their rugby league development had grown exponentially throughout the Pacific Rim training.
“This is a high level training situation and when they take these skills back to club level they are just exceptional,” he said.
“It is just like all of a sudden they have this experience about them.”
Mr Harreman said every year the Pacific Rim go into the South Coast trial matches as underdogs but they would not let that affect their performance.
“This is the beauty of country representative players, they’ve got that mental strength and those family values,” he said.
“We find our space on the field and make it our own.”
