PARENTS can relax with coffee and a chat at Logan Reserve State School while waiting to pick their children up.
It is all thanks to a new community hub within campus grounds called the Green Shed, which was opened by chaplain Marlo Bronzi last Thursday.
Ms Bronzi transformed the former equipment storage space into a parental retreat with the help of mums at the school.
While native reptiles, including snakes, once slithered and scuttled in the room’s crevices, the creepy-crawlers can no longer be found.
They were cleared out with the school’s unused items to make way for kitchen facilities, children’s toys and comfortable seating.
Ms Bronzi said community hubs, such as the Green Shed, could help combat social isolation experienced by families living in rural areas.
“The community hub is fairly new but the concept has been around for a long time,” she said. “It is really about creating a space where the local community can come and connect with each other.”
The opening was attended by about 20 guests from social and pastoral services.
Logan Reserve State School is at 69-379 School Road.
