Jimboomba athletes won more than 30 medals at the Queensland track and field championships held at the State Athletics Facility main stadium in Nathan over the weekend.
In total, 17 club members came away with medals from the championships which attracted athletes from interstate and overseas as well as competitiors from all over Queensland.
One of the most successful athletes was Camryn Newton-Smith who won three gold medals in the Under 18 women’s 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and long jump as well as silver in high jump and bronze in javelin.
Felila Kia was another multi-state title winner collecting gold medals in the under 15 girls shot put and discus as well as silver for javelin.
For the boys, Tama Tupaea also won two gold medals for the under 15 boys shot put and discus as well as silver for javelin.
Will Higgins won the under 14 hammer and placed second in the 90m hurdles while Ben Roberts won the gold medals for his 51.85m throw in the under 16 boys javelin.
The club’s pole vaulters did well with Maddison Aitkin (under 16 girls), Ashley Moloney (U18 boys) and Sam Windsor (Under 15 boys) all winning gold medals and Fletcher Pearce and Sam Emblen collecting silver medals.
On the track, Ashley Moloney added to his pole vault gold, winning two silver medals for the 100m sprint and 110m hurdles while James McPaul collected silver in the under 20 men’s 400m, Jesica Draper picked up a silver medal in the under 15 girls 200m hurdles, and Mark Wood stormed home for a bronze medal in the under 15 boys 200m.
In the field, medals were also presented to Talosaga Kia who was runner up in both the under 20 girls discus and under 17 girls discus, Lilly Pearce who collected bronze in the under 16 girls high jump and Connor Addley who climbed the podium for the first time to be presented with the under 15 javelin bronze medal.
Other club members who narrowly missed out on medals and placed highly included Tianah List, Emily Schonfisch, Kelsie Willoughby, Riyani Kettle, Marni Balmforth, Gemma King, Tiarnah Isua, Jayden Ruska, Lachlan Tate and Jack Addley.
Younger members of Jimboomba Little Athletics also competed at the Deception Bay annual carnival with Lorrilee Clifford and Erin Gallagher winning medals and Tyson, Tyler and Taj Mearns achieving personal records.
