The Queensland Redistribution Commission has released the proposed redrawing of the state’s electoral boundaries and, along with it, the electorate of Logan has almost doubled in size.
Two new electorates – Jordan and Macalister – have also been placed either side of the Logan area.
Residents will also see the Beaudesert electorate expand and be re-named the Scenic Rim.
Jordan and Macalister districts are two of four additional electorates in Queensland, set to increase the number of seats from 89 to 93.
Other changes include the re-naming of 13 seats across the state, with two former electorates dissolved.
Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said the redistribution by the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) had been the biggest shake-up of electoral boundaries in 30 years.
“The LNP will carefully study the findings and will engage with all its MPs and candidates before providing more public comment,” he said.
“This process is likely to take some time to work through.”
Member for Logan Linus Power said he would continue to work hard to deliver necessary services and improvements to his electorate.
“There won’t be a change for me,” he said.
“My goal remains the same and it is to deliver vital services and advocate for the people of Logan.”
Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause said while it was “sad to see the Beaudesert name go, (the name) better reflects the identity that is growing throughout the region on the back of the local government amalgamation.”
“It doesn't matter if you're currently in an area of the Beaudesert electorate that will be moving to another seat, I will continue to represent those communities until the changes are made,” he said.
Objections and comments to the Queensland Redistribution Commission’s proposal will remain open until 5pm, March 27.
