The resignation of Logan City Council’s Chief Executive Officer and his deputy have thrown council into a state of uncertainty.
CEO Andrew Milner resigned from the position on Friday, almost seven months after being sworn in, to return to the private sector.
His deputy, John Oberhardt, followed the move and tendered his resignation on Tuesday as well, after 34 years with council.
He was expected to pursue a career outside of government.
Mr Milner, who previously held high positions within Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, was appointed the CEO position out of a total of 83 candidates in July last year and took up the position on August 15.
Mr Milner replaced Chris Rose, who resigned as the city’s CEO in April.
Logan mayor Luke Smith requested Todd Rohl to step in as the acting CEO.
A Logan City Council spokesman said Mr Rohl had “overwhelming respect from the organisation and council team, (in order) to continue driving and leading the organisation into our next chapter of growth”.
“Council will continue to implement the building blocks in place to take us into an exciting new era,” he said.
“Logan City Council remains focused on driving Logan forward and attracting major industries to our city.”
