Jimboomba Times has spoken out on the condition of the Mount Lindesay Highway many times; and will continue to speak out until real and effective upgrades to this motorway are in progress.
Admittedly, last year’s installation of traffic lights at the Camp Cable Road intersection and the point-to-point speed cameras have been wins for the community.
Both were recommendations of the Department of Main Roads’ safety review of the highway, and the state government is to be commended for these improvements.
However, the Mount Lindesay Highway is still a perilous section of road.
As the population of the greater Jimboomba region continues to explode, traffic congestion on the already inadequate highway will only increase and the motorway will become even more perilous.
This highway that links our community with those of Beaudesert and other parts of the Scenic Rim is one of the state’s most dangerous roads.
Last year, the RACQ named and shamed the Mount Lindesay Highway as being the third most unroadworthy road in Queensland.
At the time, RACQ executive general manager advocacy Paul Turner said the shortage of overtaking opportunities on the Mount Lindesay Highway was part of the problem.
Our community deserves better than this.
The local and state governments have opened this region to intensive development but have failed to provide the roads infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of the ever-increasing population.
The Logan Country Safe City group is well aware of this and intends to drive the push for a safer highway with a stronger voice this year. Jimboomba Times applauds the group’s focus and stance.
Greater driver responsibility is also needed for road safety, but what is of utmost importance is bold decision-making to deliver this growing community a four-lane highway, regardless of the cost.
