Tamborine residents are fed up with government buck-passing as up to 200 hoons regularly attend illegal race meets at the intersection of Albert River Place and Waterford-Tamborine Road.
Local and state government representatives, as well as police, led a residents’ meeting on January 20 to discuss concerns and create solutions.
However, residents agreed that the road’s location – with Logan City Council’s boundary being only kilometres away – led to the local and state governments shifting responsibility for the road to each other.
Resident Tatiana Anikieff said she regularly witnessed groups of hoons trespass on her property, as well as restrict street access.
“(These hoons) have a mob mentality,” she said.
“We need help to alleviate this problem, but we are feeling forgotten by Logan City Council – our road is a council road, where half the problem occurs.
“I’ve heard all these solutions before – we pay rates and taxes – but no one else has a road as wide as this.”
Detective Acting Inspector Peter Waugh said police patrols would increase and surveillance measures would be investigated.
He urged residents to continue reporting hoon activity.
Logan City Council officers confirmed council was not in a financial position to place fixed cameras, but said council could potentially assist with a mobile surveillance option.
