Before and after school care children at Logan Village Goodstart have started the season of giving by donating hamper items for local families doing it tough.
Centre director Sarah Mutch said families at the centre had been very generous to the cause.
“We were definitely surprised by the amount of donations there might even be enough for more than two hampers,” she said.
“We really want to keep our hampers local, not given to a particular organisation.
Ms Mutch said the students in the ‘schoolies’ room were learning empathy and care for others by taking part in the hamper drive.
“This starts the children thinking about the giving of Christmas,” she said.
“They didn’t realise that families don’t always have food and some only get one toy for Christmas.”
