From what started as an idea between friends in 2006 has grown into a group with more than 60 members.
Supporters of the South-West Brisbane Motoring Club recently celebrated the club’s 10th anniversary – attending an end-of-year birthday bash at the Hotel Richlands.
Noel Kitchiner, who has been involved with the club for two years, said the relaxed nature of the group, as well as the friendliness of its members, was the “best bit” about the South-West Brisbane Motoring Club.
“We all have an interest in cars and it’s not a competitive group at all,” he said.
“It’s relaxed and we have regular outings, and there truly is something for everyone.”
Members of the South-West Brisbane Motoring Club meet on a regular basis and attend monthly driving tours – visiting and highlighting parts of the region, which may go unnoticed.
“We recently went for a picnic at Yatala,” Mr Kitchiner said.
“We visited the Fo Ghuang Shan Chung Tian Buddhist Temple at Underwood and we have also been to the historic village at Petire.
“It’s always fun and everyone is around the same age, and we all have an interest in cars.”
Due to the demographic and location of most of the club’s members, Mr Kitchiner said the South-West Brisbane Motoring Club was set to relocate to Park Ridge in the New Year.
The group currently meets at a location at Forest Lake.
“We have members of all ages but we’re all aged around the 50-plus mark,” Mr Kitchiner said.
“Anyone who is interested in joining is more than welcome to pop down to our new location from January 20 next year.
“We’ll be setting up shop at 101 Green Road, Park Ridge.”
