Jimboomba Redbacks player Ashleigh Hodges who plays in the under 11s team at the AFL club recently competed at the under 12s School Girls Invitational AFL Carnival.
Ashleigh tried out for the Gold Coast team and was selected on October 17 and after only one training session with the team played with 15 other players on October 22 at Yeronga and on October 23 at Kenmore.
The Gold Coast team won two games and had another very close game.
The other teams in the competition were Darling Downs, Metro West Gold, Metro West Green, Everton Wolves and Metro North.
Jamie Stanton from the Brisbane Lions’ women’s team addressed the girls at the carnival and presented footballs to all the girls and Ashleigh was lucky enough to get a picture with her.
Ashleigh is looking forward to playing football again next year with the Jimboomba Redbacks and will try out for the under 12s representative team again next year.
