Emmaus College captain Rebekah O’Brien has received the annual Emmaus Award at this week’s Thanksgiving Liturgy.
The award shows consistency and commitment to upholding Christian values and ethos of college, working well with staff, representing the college with pride and acting as a role model for peers.
One child in each class also receives a silver Emmaus Award for showing the values of the school.
Principal Kevin Schwede said Rebekah was the perfect choice for the year 12 gold award.
“Rebekah epitomises this award,” he said.
“Not only is she a great role model for other students, she shows the christian values and ethos of the school.
“She has respect for herself and others around her and is engaged right across the school with students and our staff.
“She has a friendly disposition and gives generously of her time to the school and community.”
Rebekah said she was shocked to receive the award.
“You see people win this award every year and aspire to be like those winners,” she said.
“I think I’m just like everyone else, you just have respect and support others in our community.
“This was just a lovely surprise and such an honour to end off my schooling with Emmaus.”
Rebekah has attended Emmaus College since preschool and will graduate next month, before hopefully starting a double degree at the Queensland University of Technology.
