Flagstone State Community College student Brendan Harris, who was named Scenic Rim School Based Apprentice of the Year last month, was one of many awarded at the Flagstone State Community College Academic Awards.
More than 100 students were rewarded and acknowledged – for their efforts, hard work and dedication throughout the year – at the 15th annual event on Monday.
Up to 170 certificates and trophies were presented, and shared among students between grades 7 and 12.
“It’s definitely an award to brag about,” Brendan said.
“I never thought I’d be awarded for something I have so much passion for, but since it’s happened, it’s great.
“I’ve been an apprentice chef at the Logan Village Hotel for two years now, and I’d really like to take what I’ve learnt on to something bigger and better.
“I want to finish my trade and find my way on to a cruise ship, and travel the world.”
Flagstone State Community College principal Jude Fox said the awards evening, which is the “main event of the school year”, acknowledged the student’s academic and cultural achievements – on and off campus.
“It is important to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our students and staff members at functions such as this,” Mrs Fox said.
“Last Friday, we held a similar event - our annual Sports Awards, to honour the sporting achievements of our students.
“Once again, it was a great success.”
