Year 10 students at Emmaus College were excited to tackle their first workplace mock interviews on October 11.
24 interviewers from a variety of industries were asking the tough questions in the Lomandra Centre at the college.
Banking and real estate interviewer Richard Somers said he hoped the students learnt they could relax in an interview setting.
“Employers want to see the real you, not get some generic answer,” he said.
“We want to see that their ties are straight and they are looking presentable, they are talking right to me and they are confident about their abilities.
“We understand that these kids are about 15 years old in their first ever sit down interview situation, but we want to know what makes them tick.
“They are doing very well so far.”
Head of teaching years 7-12 Stephen Adair said the students were closely matched with interviewers in the industry they were wanting to become involved in.
“Some are confident, some not so much, but they are very esxcited to be taking part,” he said.
“The mock interviews are part of the enrichment program we have here at Emmaus College.
“Last term, dependent on course stream, students took part in work experience or further education days.
“They will work on their CVs and application letters shortly.”
The students were elated to complete their ten minute interviews successfully.
