Hills International College year four students have donated close to 80 bags of food to the Salvation Army.
The forty students took on their unit of inquiry about who we are to the next level by organising a school wide food drive last term.
During the unit the students touched on the supply and demand of food, as well as how they could help others who did not have access to food.
After a call to action, over five weeks of the term students addressed assemblies and classrooms to urge other students to help the cause.
Anastasia Gardner-Berg said she liked the idea of helping others in the community.
“We went around to each class during the morning to collect the food to bring it back to our collection boxes,” she said.
“I’m pretty proud that everyone helped us.”
Major Lyn Cathcart said the food will go back to help people in the Jimboomba area.
“I’m extremely impressed that these students are caring for people in their community,” she said.
Teachers Kate Tamblyn and Tenille St Ledger agreed the students were able to get a lot of primary school families involved.
“They used a lot of the school subject through the unit of inquiry and were able to conceptualise that giving back actually makes a difference to peoples lives,” Ms St Ledger said.
