Jimboomba Athletics member Ashley Moloney, 16, travelled to Townsville last weekend to compete at the Athletics North Queensland (ANQ) track and field championships in an under 18s decathlon event and beat a record set by a Olympian during the competition.

This score was just shy of the Australian record by 99 points.

The current qualifying standard is 7100.
Ash is currently the ANQ decathlete champion for 2015 and 2016; Queensland, Australian and Oceania under 18 decathlon Champion for 2016.
He is also a nominee in the Logan City Council junior sportsman of the year.
