Flagstone State Community College student Noah Hinds has been selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum which will be held in Canberra early next year.
Noah was sponsored by Jimboomba Rotary to take part in the selection process for the event.
The National Youth Science Forum is a 12 day residential program held at the Australian National University for students entering year 12 who are passionate about science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
During the forum students have the opportunity to debate with others, take a look at ANU’s facilities and delve into the wide variety of study and career options in STEM fields.
Noah is passionate about astronomy and astrophysics and is determined to learn as much as he can in these areas.
Last year Noah studied with The School of Astronomy and Astrophysics as an accelerated Year 10 student.
He then pursued a Duke of Edinburgh Academic Award in astronomy and astrophysics and is now completing senior astrophysics advanced through year 11.
In April, Noah was one of four Australian students selected to attend work experience at the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Mt Stromlo Observatory in recognition of his achievements and dedication to studying astronomy.
Noah received glowing reports from professional astronomers after working on projects which included deriving fundamental equations to calculate the distances to nearby galaxies via different techniques, estimating the amount of matter and dark matter in galaxies, and determining the age and expansion of the universe.
Noah has also just been selected to participate in the University of Queensland enhanced studies program for 2017.
