Apprentice chef Brendan Harris has been named Scenic Rim school-based apprentice of the year.
Brendan is currently completing his year 12 studies at Flagstone State Community College, while working through his apprenticeship at the Logan Village Hotel.
He was one of the eight students recognised from across the Scenic Rim, Logan, Redlands and Gold Coast for outstanding achievement, drive and commitment in this year’s Department of Education and Training’s South-East Region school-based apprenticeship and traineeship (SAT) awards held on September 8.
Department of Education and Training South-East regional director Sharyn Donald said with over 1846 registered school-based apprentices and trainees in the South-East region, 32 employed in different occupational areas, and 97 undertaking separate qualifications, SATs are continuing to be a successful option for students.
FSCC deputy principal Greg Coleman said the school-based apprenticeship and traineeship Program gives students the opportunity to learn valuable work skills while studying at school.
“Brendan is the third student from our school to be employed in an apprenticeship at Logan Village Hotel,” he said.
“We are very grateful for the way his employers have supported our school SATS program.”
Students must be nominated by their school, have their employer’s support and attend an interview as part of the selection process.
Kingston State College Dominic Perry was named overall school-based apprentice of the year and Woodridge State High School student Tyrell Warrior was named overall school-based trainee of the year.
