Canterbury College year 11 student William Glass has been chosen to represent south Brisbane at the National Youth Science Forum.
The forum will be held at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra across 12 days in January.
The program engages students in different areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as increasing their leadership, debating and scientific skills.
William was endorsed by the Beenleigh Rotary Club in order to take part in the selection process.
The process involved district interviews in Brisbane with an interactive task component to see how well students worked well together.
William said he was very proud to be chosen and was looking forward to the experience.
“The experience will really be STEM in action, we get to debate with each other and visit the laboratories,” he said,
“I hope to broaden my knowledge across the areas of STEM.”
William has chosen physics for the trip.
“The forum will help me solidify my options coming into my final year,” he said.
“I have heard though t has changed a few peoples minds about what they want to study.
“Plus the forum will influence what I like and don’t like about ANU’s facilities.”
William said he was looking forward to the bonding bus trip to Canberra.
“The trip will be full of like minded people,” he said.
The group of Queensland representatives will also visit the Queensland Government House in October.
