A FRESH wave of community anger against Energex was stirred up on Wednesday with the stringing up of power lines by a helicopter along a two-kilometre section of Camp Cable Road.
Residents reported distressed pets and livestock while the power line stringing took place and criticised the state-owned power company for poor communication with affected landowners and residents.
Kathy Warneke said she received a letter from Energex on Tuesday advising her of the works which would be carried out the following day.
“How are we to make plans for animals and livestock when we get what I class as no notice,” she said.
Energex media relations manager Graham Metcalf said the company had sent out letters to all affected residents last week Thursday.
“As a courtesy staff here contacted the property owners identified as having livestock along that stretch of road earlier this week,” he said.
Debbie Gilbert said due to late notice she had to take time out of her volunteer work to look after her neighbour’s dog.
The crew was there between 8.30am and 3.30pm, but only sporadically flying while other works were undertaken at each of the ten poles.
Energex media relations manager Graham Metcalf said it was the first of three days of helicopter stringing of new power lines as part of the Loganlea to Jimboomba sub-transmission network upgrade.
“Weather permitting there will also be some other, much smaller and less visible, helicopter power line stringing in the area nearer to the Jimboomba substation next week,” he said.
The work is one of the last remaining stages of the largest power upgrade ever undertaken in the region to reinforce power supplies in the southern Logan and northern Scenic Rim council areas.
Mr Metcalf said weather permitting Energex was on track to commission the new powerline in October 2016.
“Once the new powerline is commissioned there will still be some revegetation work and removal of redundant, lower voltage electricity supplies in the area,” he said.
Construction on the project commenced in April 2014 after a seven year long battle between Energex and the local community.
