The rainbow of bright running outfits, thumping of music and stomping of feet signalled the start of the third instalment of the Stadium Stomp at the Gabba on Sunday morning.
Just under 2,000 people bounded around the Gabba at this year's event, which continued to raise vital funds for the Mater Little Miracles Foundation.
The Stadium Stomp started at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2013 and a year later expanded to the Gabba.
"We're the organisers of the Eureka Stair Climb in Melbourne, so we thought about doing other events involving stairs and naturally we came across sporting stadiums as the ideal place," Mr King said.
About $30,000 will be raised for the foundation this year and along with the strong attendance, Mr King estimated the event had grown about 20 per cent since last year.
More than $50,000 has been donated to the Mater Little Miracles during the three-year history of the Stadium Stomp.
The money supports treatment and research for babies born at the Mater Hospital and this year will contribute to Australia's first pregnancy centre, due to open at the Mater next year.
"The Stadium Stomp is vitally important .... we are most fortunate to be the charity of choice and we expect the partnership will continue," Mater Foundation director of fundraising Lesley Ray said.
One of this year's participants was four-time Olympic runner and manager of Qrun Benita Willis.
Ms Willis competed in the last four Olympic Games and also has an IAAF World Cross Country Championship 2004 title to her name.
She completed the course in about 30 minutes and was impressed by the atmosphere and group warm-up exercises.
"Having the different people there to warm everyone up is just awesome, seeing what they do with everyone and getting them all excited," Ms Willis said.
"Doing so many different waves I think really breaks up having mass numbers of people right there at the start and having people there at the finish line to hand you a medal .... just made the overall experience really cool as well."
"Hopefully I can get a few people from our office to come and form a team and do a bit for charity as well."
