American Supercross superstar Davi Millsaps will compete at the first round of the Australian Supercross Championships at Jimboomba X Stadium on September 17.
Millsaps is regarded as among the best Supercross and Motocross riders on the planet, regularly placing in the top ten in events of both categories, winning the famous Monster Cup in 2014.
Tickets are already on sale for the event which will pit Millsaps skills against the likes of top Australian riders Dan Reardon, Matt Moss, Kirk Gibbs and Kade Mosely and Jimboomba X Stadium’s Scott Bannan said this would be a unique opportunity to catch Millsaps and the top Australian talent in action.
“It’s massive to have him coming here, no one ever thought somebody that big would be coming to Jimboomba,” he said.
“He has won the monster cup and he has finished second in the AMA (American Motocross Association) two or three years in a row.”
“He’s a big deal, he is riding in Canada right now and winning the championship over there.”
Bannan said Millsaps is looking forward to not only competing against good friend and Loganholme bred rider Dan Reardon, on what is considered Reardon’s home track, but also helping to grow Supercross in Australia.
“He’s a great guy, some of the other guys all they want is massive money where as Davi didn’t, he was like mate just get me out there so I can turn it on for the locals which is really cool,” he said.
“Most of them are in it for the bank balance which is fair enough they’re putting their bodies on the line but Davi is definitely one of the real good guys.
“He’s really good mates with Dan Reardon, and Dan Reardon’s dad and him are real close, so he is really looking forward to battling Dan, him and Dan will have a good race I’d say.
Bannan said the Supercross at Jimboomba will be bigger and better than ever this year.
“The grandstand I think will sell out in the next couple of weeks, the stadium seats, the banks we will hopefully still have some left on the day, but we are limited to how many people we can fit in here, especially with Davi coming.
“It’s the only time you can see Davi in the country, it’s a huge opportunity, there is guys coming from Sydney in Melbourne just to watch Davi ride
“It’s not just one sided either the local boys ride so good at home, especially Dan because that’s his home track, there will definitely be some really good racing.
“We’ve improved the venue too, we’ve made the area bigger, the pits are bigger now, we’ve spent a bit more money out here.”
Bannan said being able to secure the championship’s first round is a real coup for the organisers, and something he is keen to make regular fixture on the Jimboomba event calendar.
“Being the first round is awesome, it’s the best round to get, because no one is injured, everyone is fresh everyone is trying to see who is faster than the other guy and all the bikes are new, it’s the best round to get and I’m trying to keep Jimboomba as the first round every year,” he said.
In what will be one of the biggest events in local history, the races will be live streamed on the internet bringing Jimboomba to a huge global audience.
“It’s in full HD, we’re going to 160 countries and because Davi is riding it will be massive in America with the amount of people that’ll be watching it,” Bannan said.
“I’ve got dodge em cars coming and Ekka rides and fireworks, we’ve got a massive TV screen coming now it’s like six metres in the air and it’s 50 square metres across, it’s a big LED TV so we’ve stepped it up again, so it should be good.”
“Jimboomba’s known for Supercross now you talk to overseas people and say Jimboomba and they say oh the Supercross place which is kind of cool.”
Bannan said with tickets being sold from all over Queensland and interstate, now is the time for locals to secure their tickets.
“If the local people want stadium seats, get them, because they’re not going to last very long, there is 2000 of them all up, they’re going to go.”
