Cedar Grove’s Troy Peace is full of praise for the paramedics who helped save his life after he was stung by multiple wasps earlier this year.
His partner Lisa Wallace said she didn’t realise how crucial her timing would be when she called 000 on February 5 after Mr Peace was stung while moving a roll of wire in their Cedar Grove backyard.
To ease his pain, Mr Peace jumped into their swimming pool and from there he only remembers waking up in Logan Hospital’s ICU due to a severe allergic reaction. He was released the next day.
Ms Wallace, along with 9-year-old Max and 6-year-old Ava, kept Mr Peace afloat before help arrived. Luckily, no water had entered Mr Peace’s lungs.
Advance care paramedics Bec Macdonald and Sue Neale were shocked. Ms Neale had to get into the pool to help keep Mr Peace afloat and Max came to their aid with a pool noodle. “It is certainly a day I’ll never forget,” she said.
The paramedics gave an equivalent of seven epi-pens during the reaction. Ms Macdonald said it could have been a very different situation if Ms Wallace had not called the ambulance when she did.
Mr Peace met with Ms Macdonald and Ms Neale last week, the first time since they saved his life. “I’m very grateful for the help the girls gave to me,” he said.
Ms Neale and Ms Macdonald agreed it was rewarding to meet their patients after significant situations. “It is a great gift to give a family back a loved one,” Ms Neale said.
