RESIDENTS are fuming over a development proposal for a residential housing estate on Cusack Lane.
The Four Wynnes Cusack Lane development application proposes a minimum lot size of just 350 square metres even though it is surrounded by rural-residential acreages.
Councillor Trevina Schwarz said with existing road infrastructure already struggling to cope with current demands and no proposal to construct facilities to meet the demands of such high density, she believed the current application would have a detrimental impact on the amenity and value of the area.
Fourth generation Jimboomba resident Carole Caswell said the proposal of high-density residential housing in the rural setting of Jimboomba was deeply disconcerting.
A predominant concern held by the community is how the parcel of land in question came to be included in the Logan Planning Scheme as residential.
Under the state government’s SEQ Regional Plan, the parcel of land is designated as regional landscape and rural production area, but the amended Logan Planning Scheme, which on April 15, 2015, was endorsed by Deputy Premier and Minister for Planning, Jackie Trad, includes this land as residential.
Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause said council should have consulted the community before changing a significant portion of land’s zoning from rural to residential.
“The apparent lack of notification and consultation within the community is quite concerning, as is the State Government’s willingness to allow Logan City Council to deviate from the SEQ Regional Plan without any public consultation,” he said.
Jennifer Reeves said she only received notification of the proposed development from council on May 15.
“Surely when the initial proposal was put forward by the developers council should have notified the community, not days before submissions on the development was due to close,” she said.
Submissions closed on May 20.
Gassman Development Perspectives principal Brian Gassman said out of respect for council’s decision making process he did not want to comment on the development proposal.
