Queenslanders are being asked to ‘stop driving blind’ through this year’s Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week.
Road users should become ore aware of their in car distractions, as these are the leading cause of car accidents.
There has been an 11 per cent increase in the national road toll over the past year with more than 1200 Australians killed and over 30,000 seriously injured in the past 12 months.
The yellow ribbon campaign is coordinated by Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Inc and runs from May 2.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said through the National Road Safety Strategy all Australian governments have committed to taking action to reduce crashes on roads.
“I commend Safer Australian Roads and Highways for it’s call to action. ‘Drive So Others Survive’, and its continuing efforts to improve road safety,” he said.
“During Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week, I encourage all Australians to play their part in reducing the number of deaths and injuries by exercising caution on our roads.”
